Freemasonry is one of the world’s oldest and largest non-religious, non-political, fraternal and charitable organisations.

Zetland Lodge actively supports Masonic charities and has also supported a number of non-masonic charities over the years

Delve into the rich traditions of Freemasonry as we gather to celebrate our shared values and principles

OVER 180 YEARS OF HISTORY

The Power of Giving

Charity is in a Freemason’s DNA. It is the focus of our First-Degree ceremony and its importance and virtues are the first lesson a newly made Freemason learns.

Zetland Lodge actively supports Masonic charities and has also supported several non-masonic charities over the years.

We are proud at Zetland Lodge to be patrons of the legacy Masonic Charities:

  • Patron: Royal Masonic Institution for Girls
  • Patron: Royal Masonic Institution for Boys
  • Patron: Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution
  • Founding Lodge and Grand Patron: Royal Masonic Hospital and Nursing Home Hammersmith (now closed)

In recent years we have been active supporters of the Metropolitan Grand Master’s Appeals:

  • for London’s Air Ambulance
  • for a Cybernife at St Bartholomew’s Hospital
  • for London Fire Brigade’s high-rise rescue aerial platforms

We have also supported non-masonic charities associated with our members:

  • Dane Court School, Gillingham, in their appeal for a sensory room.
  • Motor Neuron Disease
  • 41st Medway & Chatham scout group for tents and camping equipment
  • The London Stroke Association

Not strictly charity, but we also support our lodge widows by keeping in touch with them and sending them a gift each Christmas.

In 2019 we presented the Metropolitan Grand Charity Steward, Tony Shields with a cheque for £8,000 as a donation towards the Metropolitan Grand Master’s London Fire Brigade high-rise rescue aerial platforms appeal on behalf of the lodge members.

This generous donation had been raised by a five-man team of Zetland Lodge members who successfully completed the gruelling National Three Peaks Challenge.

In 2017, in the presence of Ian Currans, Assistant Metropolitan Grand Master we presented a cheque for £1,000 to Heather Clifford, Community and Events Fundraiser for The Stroke Association London Region.

Ted Jennings became an honorary member of the lodge in 2007 – but forgot to cancel the standing order for his subscription. His oversight and generosity benefited the Stroke Association in London to the tune of £1,000. A charity dear to his heart.
