Freemasonry is one of the oldest social and charitable organisations in the world, open to those of all backgrounds.
What is Freemasonry?
WHAT WE ARE (Purpose)
We are a distinguished members’ organisation with a history spanning over 300 years. Without any political or religious affiliations, our membership comprises individuals of all ages, races, religions, cultures, and backgrounds. We convene in our respective Lodges nationwide, engaging in ceremonial traditions that promote tolerance, respect, and encourage us to fulfil our civic and charitable responsibilities. Furthermore, we make time for social interaction, fostering lifelong friendships through shared meals and gatherings.
WHAT WE AIM FOR (Vision)
Our goal is to attract individuals from diverse backgrounds, enabling them to grow into more thoughtful and confident individuals. We aim to inspire and challenge them to embody the core values we uphold—Integrity, Friendship, Respect, and Service—in both their private and public lives. Our vision is to solidify our reputation as a positive force within our communities and society at large, establishing ourselves as a flourishing organisation that others aspire to join.
OUR VALUES
INTEGRITY: Rather than working on edifices like the masons of old, contemporary Freemasons focus on personal development, striving to build themselves into individuals of integrity. Membership provides the structure to help achieve this objective.
FRIENDSHIP: As one of the oldest social organisations globally, Freemasonry transcends ideological boundaries. It welcomes people from all religions and political beliefs, providing a common foundation for enduring friendships between members.
RESPECT: With a membership exceeding 150,000 individuals from various communities across the UK, Freemasonry unites people regardless of race, religion, or other perceived differences that may divide society.
SERVICE: Central to Freemasonry is a commitment to service, whether participating in events, fundraising for charitable causes, or volunteering for public or community organisations. Our members contribute significantly by donating their time, resources, and skills.
